Single
Balloon Arch Do-it-yourself
|
|
1. Set up your
helium tank near the site where the arch will be placed. Have the
tank in a safety stand. You will need a spool of monofilament
(fishing line), template (or size box), a couple of weights, some
tape, and the balloons to be inflated. All the work can be done by
one person, although the installation (step 8) is easier with two people.
2. Measure the
length of the arch. Place a chair at this measured distance from the tank.
3. Loop
monofilament line around the neck of the helium tank. Holding both
ends of the line, walk to the chair and tie the line ends together
around a chair leg or through the char back. You now have a double
length of line stretching the correct distance. This looped line will
work like a pulley, allowing the work to be done from one spot.
4. Inflate the
first balloon with helium: place it in the template to ensure it is
the correct size . Do not knot the balloon. Holding the neck in your
left hand, place it on the left side of the line. Stretch the neck
under the line and back up to the cross over itself - creating a
loop. Push the end of the neck through this loop, knotting the
balloon directly to the line.
5. The first
balloon is now secured to the line. Pull the line away from you
towards the chair.
6. Inflate the
second balloon, as in Step 4. When tying the second balloon to the
line, see that it barely touches the side of the first balloon.
Repeat Steps 4 and 5 with as many balloons as are necessary until the
first balloon has been pulled all the way to the chair.
|
|
7. Create slack
in the filament by moving the chair closer to
the
tank. Secure the loose middle with tape; then cut the filament next
to the taped end and weight it. You now have one long ballooned line,
with a weight at each end. |
|
8. Transport
the completed line to the installation site. Check that the balloons
are evenly spaced, and make certain that the two end balloons on each
side are level with each other. If the weights are not decorative,
use and appropriate disguise. |
|
 |
|
9. For added effect tie a short piece of
curling ribbon on to each balloon after to tie them to the fishing line. |
